Was reading this article that reports Sen. Chuck Schumer’s efforts to eliminate “maverick garbage and hazardous material trucks traveling routes other than those designated by the state.” A hot button issue in Skaneateles. I had to chuckle when I read that Schumer is “counting on residents to be his ‘tracking system’ to vigilantly report violators.” I don’t doubt for a moment that there are people in Skan who will chase these trucks down for the plate number (or blood, take your pick). What fun! Track down dem yeller belly scoundrels and fetch Marshal Dillon for the hangin.

Look here for a nice selection of images of the Skaneateles Blue Water Blades. If you’re not already familiar with the Blue Water Blades, they finished first at the Empire State Games in 2004, 1st in the Skaneateles Figure Skating Club Annual Competition in 2006, and placed 4th at the Colonial Classic in Lowell Mass in 2007. They also placed 3rd in the qualifying round at Eastern Sectionals in Providence in 2007, ultimately finishing 2nd out of 11 in the final round. This put them in the overall number 2 position on the Eastern coast. The Blue Water Blades have also qualified to compete at the State Games of America in Colorado Springs, CO, where they will compete against teams from across the country! See the images here. (more…)

You know those things you don’t know because you haven’t looked? If you ever find yourself in need of a smile, visit Laure Lillie’s (wiki) website portfolio. To do this, click Portfolio after clicking here. Viewing Laure’s work, it seems to me that God must have been lonely when he made the human face, with its smile that dissolves all troubles, its eyes that tell us not to worry, that “it’s ok,” seemingly reaching utterly to the soul. I suspect He needed the comfort as much as we do. Great work Laure :)

Briel Computer’s Office Manager slash Creative Director slash ‘all around dynamo’ Christine Briel is now assuming another title in her long list: Twitter-er extraordinaire, since she is now tweeting her life away in the right column of this website! No sooner had I mentioned to Christine that I wanted to put up a twitter.com recent tweet box than she had already posted two tweets! I didn’t even need to wait for her latent tweeting wants to surface. Instant gratification! You can see the full list of Christine’s tweeting on Twitter.com here.

If you haven’t yet stopped to say “hi” at Stella Maris Retreat & Renewal Center (wiki), located on the lake in Skaneateles, you really should do it. Yes, you really can stop in and say “hi.” The management and staff are extremely friendly. I was surprised to find out some time ago that Stella Maris is not just Retreat Center, as you might imagine from the name, but also a Conference Center, where businesses, organizations, schools, etc can hold events and meetings. And they do a good job at providing the whole shebang, including food (in volume if needed)! I’ve been to the center for work (computer network install) and play (Skaneateles Rotary event), and found on both occasions that it’s a great place to be, with nice people. Check out all these smiling faces :). Stella’s website is here. A great slide show with music can be found here.

If you’ve not yet read Angela Newman’s Audience Thursday blog at syracuse.com, surf over and check it out! Not surprisingly, she posts on Thursdays. You may also meet Angela if you’re lucky enough to be attending the same local event or show as her, and you won’t need an introduction! The meeting will most likely start with you noticing an attractive young woman, hovering, leaning in toward you while feigning a look for her friend across the room, but taking notes! If this happens, then be sure to read her blog, because your comments will likely be on the fast track to fame. Check here for an entry she wrote in Nov 2006 after visiting the Dickens celebration in Skaneateles. And if you see Angela at this year’s celebration, be sure to speak to the people in your party slowly and clearly!
