The challenges of leadership are many: motivating and inspiring others, resolving conflicts, leading groups, making effective decisions, maintaining high ethical standards, developing the leadership skills of others. And, finally, knowing when to step down.

These are among the topics discussed in “The Intentional Leader – 2009 Supplement” by Skaneateles resident Kenneth A. “Buzz” Shaw, Chancellor Emeritus and University Professor at Syracuse University. The book was published Dec. 1 by Syracuse University Press.

“The Intentional Leader,” first published by SU Press in 2005, has sold more than 2,200 copies and is widely used as a college text. Rather than publishing a second edition, Shaw decided to take a more novel approach—playing off the original.

From the Bijou Salon website:

“Today I had the Honor, and I do mean Honor with a capital H, to meet Helen. She is a local Skaneateles resident who is turning 100!

Thanks to the Internet, her Granddaughter Leslie contacted me a few weeks ago asking if we could come to her beloved Grandmothers house who was turning 100 years old for a manicure, something she wasn’t sure if her grandma had ever had!! How could I ever refuse! I knew I would have a lovely time and it was something that I looked forward to from the moment I booked the appointment for her!”

bobcomenole.jpgThis last holiday season I came across 2 or 3 parts of Bob Comenole’s wonderful holiday tale “Watchman, Tell Me of the Night”. He offered it as a “gift” to Skaneateles Journal readers. Unfortunately, later when I searched the Internet to try and read the story in its entirety from beginning to end I had trouble locating all of the parts to the story. The stories original appearance was found in 3 separate newspapers:

The Reno Gazette-Journal, December 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 25th, 2007
The Auburn Citizen, Sunday, December 2nd, 9th, 17th, 24th, 2007
Skaneateles Journal, December 4, 11, 18, 26, 2007
Below is Skaneateles resident and author Bob Comenole’s holiday tale called, “Watchman, Tell Me of the Night” in its entirety, including an epilogue. If you haven’t yet read it from beginning to end, I urge you to go ahead and do so. It’s a wonderful tale that begins in Chicago and ends in Skaneateles at the Stella Maris Retreat & Renewal Center

While Dickens Christmas draws thousands of tourists and out-of-town visitors to Skaneateles each year, local residents get an added benefit—they can partake in special holiday events geared to their interests.

Skaneateles Sings (formerly known as Locals Night), Ladies Night and Gents Night all are events that provide an opportunity for community members to celebrate the season and enjoy the beauty of the village’s Victorian Christmas.

Skaneateles Sings was held the evening of Dec. 5
. Festivities began at the library at 6 p.m., with Father Christmas and Mother Goose greeting children, reading stories and posing for photos. At 6:30 p.m., the crèche was dedicated by the Rev. Craig Lindsey in a candlelit ceremony. Skaneateles Sings is sponsored by KeyBank and organized by the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Skaneateles Merchants Association and the Skaneateles Garden Club.
If you missed Skaneateles Sings you still have a chance to join in the celebrations during Ladies Night or Gents Night.

During Ladies Night on Dec. 11
, women are encouraged to get together with friends, browse the village
