“Camille Paglia wrote, “The Artist makes art not to save humankind, but to save himself.”
From an early time, I have been a photographer. Some of my ancestors were photographers, beginning with my great-great grandfather who was a Civil War photographer. The arts have always been an important way that my family has communicated their lifestyles, their feelings, their travels, and travails, and I follow in that tradition.

The Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce, headed by Executive Director Susan Dove, has adopted a new mission statement, elected new board members, established new committees and adopted an ambitious agenda for the coming year.

One major emphasis will be the Buy Local campaign; a second will be tourism.

“As part of our continuing Buy Local campaign, we want to encourage all residents to think about buying local first, before going out of town or hitting the Internet,” Dove says. She notes the Chamber’s gift certificate program, which encourages spending in the local community, is “bigger and better than ever,” netting more than $66,000 in sales in 2008. Gift certificates can be purchased in any denomination and can be used at any Chamber member business.
