Orchestra students district-wide are preparing for an “electrifying” experience: performing with Emmy Award-winning electric rock violinist Mark Wood on the high school stage at 7 p.m. April 1. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. The public is invited.
A national sensation, Wood will work with students in grades 3 to 12 during school on March 31 and April 1, said Karen Veverka, high school and middle school string teacher.
Student interest in jazz and amplified strings has been so high that last year Veverka created a jazz ensemble, Fiddle-Styx, to replace the traditional small chamber orchestra. Wood’s specialty is “a great match” for the students’ interest, she said.
Students are excited to work with the Julliard-trained rock musician, she said. He has performed with legends Leonard Bernstein, Billy Joel and Celine Dion, and is also widely known as the lead violinist of Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Contact Veverka or members of the Music Boosters Club for tickets.
