Creekside Books & Coffee, an independent bookstore and coffeehouse in Skaneateles, is honored to be hosting Ann Mazer, the author of two award winning chapter book series, The Amazing Days of Abbey Hayes and Sister Magic, both published by Scholastic. She will be visiting the bookstore on Saturday, June 6th at 1:00 PM.
“We are really looking forward to meeting Ms. Mazer and hearing about her work. Her books have been popular at Creekside and many children love following the stories of Abbey Hayes and the characters, Mabel and Violet in her new chapter book series, Sister Magic,” says Erika Davis, owner of Creekside Books & Coffee.
About the Author
Anne Mazer is the author of The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes and the new young reader chapter book series, Sister Magic. She has also written several award winning picture books, including The Salamander Room and The No-Nothings and Their Baby. She was born in 1953 in Schenectady, New York. As the daughter of novelists Harry Mazer and Norma Fox Mazer, Mazer loved books and said that she would often sneak out of high school to go to the public library. After high school, she went on to study art, at Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts. She also studied French language and literature at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she lived for three years. It was in Paris that Mazer began writing, but she didn’t consider the picture book form until after the first of her two children was born. Watch Me, her first published work, became one of a number of critically acclaimed picture books; Moose Street, published two years later, showed Mazer to be equally adept at crafting young adult novels
About Mazer’s Newest Books
#6: Mabel on the Move
The chronicles of these two irrepressible sisters continue as utterly organized Mabel and utterly outrageous Violet go on a family trip. Mabel has been counting the days—and checking her lists—until she is reunited with her same-age cousins. Because, not only are the cousins sure to plan spooky backyard campouts and excellent flea market adventures, they might know a secret or two about the family magic. Things, of course, don’t go quite as Mabel plans, but she couldn’t be more pleased—or surprised—to learn something new about sister magic.
All That Glitters Isn’t Gold (Amazing Days of Abby Hayes (Paperback) #19)
Abby’s never cared much about having the latest, greatest thing. But Brianna has the brand-new MePhone, and suddenly Abby is green with envy. It’s all she can to do convince her parents she needs any phone at all, much less the top-of-the-line model. And then there’s another problem: When Brianna loses her phone, Abby’s the one who finds it. Does she really have to give it back?
“Parents and Grandparents looking to encourage their children to begin reading on their own, will find it easy with Ann Mazer’s adventure-filled chapter books,” says Davis. “And signed copies of Ann Mazer’s books are sure to be great additions to any summer reading list!”
