Helen O’Leary to join poets for Creekside Books & Coffee’s poetry reading on May 9th

Creekside Books & Coffee, an independent bookstore and coffeehouse in Skaneateles, has just confirmed that Helen O’Leary, local poet and educator, will be joining the talented lineup of poets who will be reading at Creekside’s Poetry Reading on May 9th at 7:00 pm in the coffeehouse.

“This means that we now have five (5) local poets who will be sharing their original work with us for an inspirational evening of poetry,” says Erika Davis, owner of Creekside Books & Coffee.  “There is much to learn and be inspired by from those involved in the creative writing process. We hope that many come out for the evening to enjoy these talented writers.”

“Skaneateles school administrator Gary Gerst will become principal of West Genesee’s Stonehedge Elementary School-Gold. His salary will be $85,000 and he will begin July 1.

Gerst is currently the K-5 math/science/health curriculum coordinator and districtwide staff development coordinator in Skaneateles.”

“Skaneateles’ 3-year-old mining controversy is over. Or is it?

The Skaneateles Town Board voted 3-2 Thursday night to approve Cemento LLC’s application for a special permit to dig a 77-acre sand-and-gravel mine in the middle of Shepard Settlement, a farming hamlet with about 100 homes in the north end of the town.

Auburn-based Cemento initially applied for the permit in January 2006, but the application was on hold while the town wrestled with its mining laws.”
