The Skaneateles Area Arts Council will present its second annual free concert to the community, “Dance & Swing,” Saturday, Aug. 8. The concert, featuring the Charlie Bertini Jazz Band, starts at 8 p.m. at the gazebo at Skaneateles’ Clift Park.
“Dancing is encouraged, as this band is difficult to sit still to,” says Joe Strodel, president of the Skaneateles Area Arts Council.
Charlie Bertini was raised in Skaneateles, began trumpet lessons at the age of 9, and started his own dance band in the ninth grade. At 19, he joined the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, touring for six years as first trumpeter and later as musical director.

“Normally, Welch Allyn’s medical equipment arrives at the customer’s door by truck.
But trucks can’t maneuver around the steep mountains and deep valleys of the Kingdom of Bhutan, which has hired the Skaneateles company to provide sophisticated medical equipment that will connect the country’s primary health clinics with hospitals.
So the company used the Bhutan’s traditional truck — a yak — to deliver the equipment.
“People even now, when they commute from the villages to the town, they walk. If they have to carry some loads, they use yaks. That’s their truck,” said Dr. Biren Sahoo, Welch Allyn’s country manager for India.”

After having the “milfoil monster” visit Bijou, and discussing the large green footprints
at the door of the salon, I realized, we really are avoiding a huge problem in our lake. Yeah there are the guys cleaning it up, but why…and how? Who is funding it? Well after a little bit of research and after talking to the “skaneateles pool boys” (their reference, not mine;) I learned a little bit more and decided to try to help a little too! It doesn’t take much, just a few bucks, every little tiny bit helps!! We all love our lake, but how long do we expect it to be as perfect as it is?? I see a huge difference in the lake from when I first moved here over 13 years ago!
So help me…

“On Thursday July 16, Skaneateles Mayor Bob Green called a press conference in Clift Park to discuss “a very important
matter” with the community. “It has come to my attention that our sparkling lake is in imminent danger,” Green said. “Many of you have seen the sneaky, mischievous creature known at Milford the Milfoil Monster creeping around out beloved village wreaking havoc. I say, this needs to stop!”
According to Green, Milford and his “milfoil menace” have the ability to destroy the lake and that is exactly what will happen if the community doesn’t act quickly.”
