“Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead, Anthropologist.
Together, we raised $1,321 for local breast cancer organization, Positively Pink Packages, as a result of the flip flop project. Members of our community, united to increase awareness by purchase of the stylish flip flops and sporting them around town. A special thank you to Kim Baker and the staff at Bijou Salon, Laure Lillie Photographie, Elle Events, and the Go to Girl, for their continual help to make a difference in our community.
Given the success of the project, we are launching phase two, Flip Flops for Susan Major, now on sale at Bijou Sale and Skaneateles Jewelry Store. 100% of the proceeds will support Susan’s road to health and the words inscribed on the flip flops, chosen by Kim Baker, are “faith and hope”; walking examples of the attributes our community displays. Please support this great initiative!

I am originally from Skaneatleles ( Class of ‘71)and now live in Hilton Head, SC. I am also a 2 year breast cancer survivor and while in treatment at Upstate Medical ( in Syr.) received a”Positively Pink Package” at the time when I was feeling down and really needed a boost. I would love to replicate this Flip-Flop program here in Hilton Head, as I begin to put down roots here and wish to help and support this community. Please have someone contact me to tell me how to go about getting this project started, so that I can give back to others.
Anyone with breast cancer or interested in preventing this condition should know about the data on vitamin D. The data on vitamin D deficiency leading to cancer is as strong as the evidence that smoking causes cancer. The Canadian Cancer society started recommending that everyone take vitamin D to prevent cancer over two years ago but still very few outside Canada know this. There is also very good data suggesting that breast cancer patients do much better when their vitamin D levels are optimal. http://www.vitaminD3world.com is a good resource for more information and has recently launched a new preparation of vitamin D in a micro-pill formulation. The pills have been formulated with cellulose which absorbs water very quickly. This ensures that the pill breaks up very quickly to provide for maximum absorption. The micro pill is tiny and tasteless. Many vitamin D pills on the market have very poor dissolution properties resulting in poor absorption.
The site also offers to supply customers with a free supply of 400IU for their children and it also has a good newsletter.
