Saturday, September 12Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) Meeting
Creekside Books is hosting the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) Meeting on Saturday, September 12 at 2:00 pm. JASNA is dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writings. If you are interested in sharing Jane Austen writings with others, please plan to attend this special meeting. Tuesday, September 15thCleopatra’s Daughter & Treasure Hunt
Creekside Books is one of fifty independent bookstores across the country participating in a treasure hunt in celebration of Michelle Moran’s latest novel for middle readers, Cleopatra’s Daughter. To find the clues that will lead to the treasure chest, visit www.michellemoran.com/treasurehunt.htm. Creekside Books has a treasure check and the first middle reader to follow the clues will win prizes, including gold-plated Cleopatra earrings, a Roman artifact with a certificate of authenticity, plus a signed copy of Michelle Moran’s latest novel, Cleopatra’s Daughter. “Creekside and Friends of the Central Library (FOCL) have joined forces for a spectacular season!
In conjunction with The Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series, we are introducing a “NEW” Book Club featuring the lecture series. Join us as we read the featured authors books together, discuss them at our book club meetings at Creekside and then organize an evening in Syracuse to attend the coinciding lecture at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. Creekside Books & Coffee is a proud media sponsor and book vendor for the series

An Afternoon with Cathy Buchanan, Author of “The Day the Falls Stood Still”
Cathy Buchanan has written a lovely love story full of adventure that includes many historical occurrences in the Niagara Falls area. While the main characters in the story are fictional, their deeds are closely aligned with true history. Bess and Tom Cole meet each other while on daily walks. Tom is an expert on the entire falls area and iwas known for his rescues of those that fell, jumped or went over the falls by plan. Bess tries to help Tom keep Niagara Falls the way it always had been with a constant full flow above and below the falls but the falls is important link in the advancement of power between Canada and the United States.

Join us for a special presentation of Larry Denton’s book, “William Seward the Secession Crisis”. Mr. Denton will discuss the how William Seward tried to prevent war and how our local area, especially Auburn, played a part in these historic events.

Wine & Food Event: Lebanese Cuisine Featuring “Gratifying Grape Leaves with a Classic Lebanese Cucumber Yogurt Salad” by Julie Ann Sageer.
September’s Wine & Food event features Lebanese Cuisine by Julie Ann Sageer. She will demonstrate how to prepare Grape Leaves with a classic Lebanese Cucumber Yogurt. ”Creekside Writers Academy”
This autumn, Creekside Books will offer another round of writing workshops through our “Creekside Writers Academy”. The courses focus on developing creative, professional and personal writing. Classes are generally 5 weeks in length and will be offered throughout the fall, beginning the week after Labor Day. The seminars are taught by retired literature professor and local novelist, Bob Comenole. For the past year, Mr. Comenole has taught numerous workshops at Creekside in an informal, interactive atmosphere.

The schedule of courses this fall include: Writing for Memoirs and Autobiography, Writing for Children, Power Writing (adding grace, clarity and muscle to your writing) and The Hero’s Journey for Storytellers (using myth and archetypes). Creekside Books & Coffee is located at 35 Fennell Street in Skaneateles. The bookstore is the only retail store in the village selling new hardcover and paperback books as well as toys, gifts, greeting cards and unique seasonal merchandise. The coffeehouse features freshly roasted coffee, local wines and selected appetizers as well as a light fare menu for breakfast and lunch.
