Skaneateles Speaker Series Features Ken Blanchard

Leadership and management expert Ken Blanchard, co-author of “The One Minute Manager,” will discuss his latest work, “Great Leaders Grow,” in the next installment of the Skaneateles Speaker Series.

The program, organized by the Professional Services Committee of the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce, will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Skaneateles Country Club, 3344 W. Lake St. Blanchard’s talk starts at 6 p.m.

“If you stop growing and learning, then you may as well lay down and have dirt thrown on you, because you are dying,” Blanchard says. “Growing as a leader is important, whether you are running a company or just being a good grandparent.”

Blanchard is co-founder and chief spiritual officer of The Ken Blanchard Companies, an international management training and consulting firm that he began with his wife, Margie, in 1979. In addition to being a renowned speaker and consultant, he also spends time as a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, Cornell University, where he is a trustee emeritus.

His books have appeared in more than 25 languages and sold more than 18 million copies. “The One Minute Manger,” co-authored with Spencer Johnson in 1982, sold more than 13 million copies and remains on best-seller lists.

Blanchard has received numerous honors and awards, including the Council of Peers Award of Excellence from the National Speakers Association, the Golden Gavel Award from Toastmasters International and the Thought Leadership Award from the Association of Learning Providers. He was inducted into the HRD (Human Resource Development) Hall of Fame by Training magazine and Lakewood Conferences, and Amazon’s Hall of Fame as one of the top 25 best-selling authors of all time.

He received a master’s degree from Colgate University, and a bachelor’s and Ph.D. from Cornell. The business school at Grand Canyon University bears his name.

Welch Allyn is presenting sponsor of the event. Promotional support has come from Vincent McCabe Inc. and Group M Communications.

The evening will include opportunities for networking, a free drink coupon for wine or beer, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and door prizes. In addition, the first 80 people to register will receive a free copy of “Great Leaders Grow.”
