August Events

12 Star Party: Perseid Meteor Shower
9-11 pm.
The Perseid meteor shower is one of the year’s best meteor showers and one of our most popular astronomy programs. In addition: how about views of Neptune and Uranus? Saturn will be getting low in the west, and great views of the summer Milky Way continue. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to lie back and gaze for meteors. $5 for members, $15/family; $8 for nonmembers, $25/family. Back-up date: August 13.

18 Barefoot Hike
1-2:30pm
Free your feet! Come feel the earth under your soles at Baltimore Woods, as Barefoot Bob (our Star Party leader) reconnects you to this underutilized and healthy mode of transportation. Join Bob for a half-mile barefoot hike along the Valley Trail over grass, wooden bridges, leaves and soil. Your feet will thank you! Accommodates 5-20. This program is not intended for families with strollers. $5 for members; $15/family; $8 for nonmembers, $25/family.

25 Nature Journaling
10-11am
Journaling about the wonders of nature creates a deep connection and love for the environment. Join Naturalist Becky Lynch and learn how to implement writing, drawing, photography and more into your nature journals— really get your creative juices flowing! You will create your own journal from recycled materials and learn all the important elements of this meditative practice. This program is ideal for beginners and no art skills are needed! Supplies will be provided. $7 for members, $10 for nonmembers.
