Stephen Ryan started his career as a professional, graphic designer / art director at a multitude of Ad Agencies. It was there, doing illustrations, he became fascinated with the exhilarating challenge of impressionistic, wet-to-wet watercolors. “You don’t get any second chances with watercolors. The paints take you where they want to go -it’s a constant struggle/collaboration until the final image takes it’s form.”
People are his favorite subjects. ”There is so much you can read into a person and situation portrayed. Everyone seems to takes away a unique impression when viewing to my art. It’s as different as the subjects I paint.”
Ryan has a Art Studio in Skaneateles, NY, where he lives. He is an Adjunct Professor of Art at SUNY OCC, teaching Computer Graphics and Advanced Graphic Design. He is a Signature Member of The Central New York Watercolor Society. and also serves on their Board of Directors. He is a judge, annually, at the Scholastic Arts Awards, and has also judges the New York State Fair Art Competition.
His work has exhibited at multiple art galleries in Central New York and is in numerous art collections both regionally and nationally.
