The Redhouse Presents “Cabaret” at Sherwood Inn – Thursday, June 27, 2013

Sherwood Inn, Skaneateles, NY

Some people say that life is a circus.  Others say that life is a cabaret.  The Redhouse says “Why not be both.”, so this year they are presenting their traveling production of “Cabaret” in a “Speigeltent”, a german mirrored circus tent.  This production will travel from Skaneateles, outside the Sherwood Inn to the lawn of the MOST in Armory Square, serving up German beer and food with the entertainment.  Unfortunately the tent provides limited seating, only 80 seats , that is selling very fast.

Based on the book “The Berlin Stories” by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the classic musical “Cabaret” has been revived numerous times on Broadway and in London, winning multiple awards including the Tony for “Best Musical” when it came out.  It is set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power; focusing on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the 19 year old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw.  Overseeing the action is the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub which serves as a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening state of late Weimar Germany throughout the show.

The cast includes a range of performers, from professional New York actors, Will Graziano, Becca Orts, Antonio Tillman, Cody Bringman, Martin Glyer (Noises Off) and Brian Detleffs (Assassins, Full Monty) to local Syracuse area favorites, Christine Lightcap, Kayla Dueland, Tyler Spicer, Shawn Brazell, Sarah Bogden, Rupert Kruger (Hairspray, Peter Pan), Allie Villa (Hairspray, Full Monty), Mary Nickson (Hairspray, Assassins), Jessie Dobrzynski (Hairspray, Peter Pan) and Jim Byrne (Hairspray, Full Monty).

The production team includes Redhouse regulars, Stephen Svoboda directing, Zach Orts music directing, Mary Angelo choreographing, Tim Brown on lights and Mark Nagle on costumes.
