The Cloisters sits high on the cliffs above the Hudson and is an actual abbey – all disassembled brick-by-brick in France before being shipped to NYC in the 1930’s.  It is a part of the Metropolitan Museum of art. The area around The Cloisters was landscaped with gardens planted according to horticultural information obtained from medieval manuscripts and artifacts, and the structure includes multiple medieval-style cloistered herb gardens. The famous unicorn tapestries are filled with images of plants and flowers important to medieval medicine and magic.

The New York City Flower Market located just outside our hotel  features stalls and shops inside and out and flowers and plants from all over the world.   It is best early in the morning.  The market is fabulous source for unusual design mechanics, containers and other garden treasures.

The Central Park Conservatory Garden is divided into three smaller gardens, each with a distinct style: Italian, French and English.  We’ll have a guided tour of the highlights.

The High Line is a 1-mile NYC  garden park built on a section of the elevated former NY Central Railroad runs along the lower west side of Manhattan.  It was inspired by a similar project in Paris, Promenade plantee.  This creative aerial gardenscape is one of the most innovative and stunning garden projects of century.
