An Afternoon with Cathy Buchanan, Author of “The Day the Falls Stood Still”
Cathy Buchanan has written a lovely love story full of adventure that includes many historical occurrences in the Niagara Falls area. While the main characters in the story are fictional, their deeds are closely aligned with true history. Bess and Tom Cole meet each other while on daily walks. Tom is an expert on the entire falls area and iwas known for his rescues of those that fell, jumped or went over the falls by plan. Bess tries to help Tom keep Niagara Falls the way it always had been with a constant full flow above and below the falls but the falls is important link in the advancement of power between Canada and the United States.

This autumn, Creekside Books will offer another round of writing workshops through our “Creekside Writers Academy”. The courses focus on developing creative, professional and personal writing. Classes are generally 5 weeks in length and will be offered throughout the fall, beginning the week after Labor Day. The seminars are taught by retired literature professor and local novelist, Bob Comenole. For the past year, Mr. Comenole has taught numerous workshops at Creekside in an informal, interactive atmosphere.

The schedule of courses this fall include: Writing for Memoirs and Autobiography, Writing for Children, Power Writing (adding grace, clarity and muscle to your writing) and The Hero’s Journey for Storytellers (using myth and archetypes). Laura’s List: Summer Booklover’s Party
Join us as we kick off summer reading previews with the founder of a local Breast Cancer organization, Positively Pink Packages and Breast Cancer survivor, Jennifer Tom. Author of East Hope, Katharine Davis, and creator of Laura’s List: Books for Women, Laura Ponticello as well as owner of Creekside Books & Coffee, Erika Davis, will preview this summer’s reading list. A portion of the evening’s book and wine sales plus a raffle prize from Mirbeau Inn & Spa (www.mirbeau.com) will help local Skaneateles resident, mother and inspirational speaker, Susan Major, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The event will support the “24 hour goal” of raising $1,000 and the clock starts with the Summer Booklover’s Party.

Founder of Sacred Mornings for Moms and Our Joyful Journeys, Susan has ignited many women in our community to believe in a better day, nourish their spiritual side and to think about giving back to others. I have witnessed firsthand Susan’s ability to sow seeds of hope for others.  When I heard about Susan’s recent diagnosis with breast cancer at age 39. I wanted to extend our prayers and hopeful intentions for her healing. During the Summer Book Lover’s Party, Jennifer will share her inspiring story. Laura Ponticello, of Laura’s List tells us, “This evening is near and dear to my heart because my Nana Rose, was a breast cancer survivor. This evening is about laughter, amazing conversation, a fabulous captivating summer read, called East Hope, and Sowing Seeds of Hope in our community! I expect standing room only and a lot of women united together creating hope for each other.”

Author, Katharine Davis began writing fiction in 1999. Capturing Paris (St. Martin’s Press, May 2006) was her first novel. Recommended in Real Simple Spring Travel 2007, the novel was also included in the New York Times suggestions for fiction set in Paris. Her second novel, East Hope, was published by New American Library in February 2009. She is an Associate Editor at The Potomac Review.

Erika L. Davis, owner of Creekside Books & Coffee says, “We hope to see a big crowd come out for our 2nd annual Book Lover’s Party. Creekside Books & Coffee is located at 35 Fennell Street in Skaneateles. The bookstore is the only retail store in the village selling new hardcover and paperback books as well as toys, gifts, greeting cards and other merchandise. The coffeehouse features the freshest roasted coffee in town, a light fare menu and a pleasant atmosphere to relax and enjoy.

Pirate Party and Book Signing with Children’s Book Author.
Children’s Pirate Book author Donna Bennett will be at Creekside Books in Skaneateles for a pirate princess party.  The “Petey and the Mean Pirates”
storytime, party, and book signing will be on March 4th from 10:30a-12p.
Petey and the Mean Pirates sends a heart warming message of peace.  The book is a delightful children’s story that appeals to both kids and parents, alike. This event is free to the public.  No registration necessary.
Children can come dressed in their favorite pirate or princess costume but, not required

Author or Stump City, Mike Quigley return to Creekside to introduce his newest in the Stump City series, “Childhood without a Helmut”.  Set again in that predominantly Irish-American section of Skaneateles Falls, New York, the story roughly parallels the time period of Stump City but focuses on Michael’s interactions with his friends and neighbors.  This event is free to the public.  No registration required.

Dennis J. Connors is Curator of History at the Onondaga Historical Association Museum & Research Center. Local community member and author, Elisabeth Hurley, presents her new children’s book, “Digging Spring”.  The illustrator of this adorable new children’s book, Erin Sherman, will be joining Ms. Hurley at Creekside.  Ms.
Hurley will be reading from “Digging Spring” and both will be available to sign books and answer questions from the audience.  This event is free to the public.  No registration required.

Urban Health presents “Be, Heal, Live: Shift from Crisis to Clarity” By Pam Denton, DC and Sarah R. Kaczor
Simple steps will be presented and experienced in the form of a circle. Please bring a journal and wear comfortable clothing.
