Gents Shopping Night in Skaneateles, Thursday, December 17th, 2009,  will include a Gents “English Pub Night” at Creekside’s Coffeehouse. Three Dickens Gents, “Charles Dickens, Marley and President Polk” will sing songs and tell stories from 7-9 PM. Mary Gardner’s poem, SECRETS ON THE PIER – free verse form about the lighted tree which the village sets each year for the holiday season at the end of the pier – has been illustrated in a beautiful collored pencil drawing by Marian Settineri of Marietta.

It is available as Commemorative Souvenir card, suitable for mailing, framing or plaquing.  It is available for purchase at the Chamber office, Creekside,  First National, Pomodoro, Stella Maris Retreat Center.

The Live Music Program at Creekside Coffeehouse offers an exciting program this weekend featuring Mike Powell “The Polite Rebel” on Friday, October 23rd and The Barrigar Brothers on Saturday, October 24th. Both programs begin at 7:30 pm. Beer and wine, per requests by patrons, is now available as well as Creekside’s fresh roast coffees, desserts and snacks. We hope to see you this weekend!

“Milfoil Benefit” featuring Dusty Pas’cal and the Milfoil Monster at Creekside Books & Coffee. $ 5 Admission (Ages 5 & Under Free) and $1 Donation to take photo with Milfoil Monster goes straight to the Milfoil Eradication Project. Creekside Books & Coffee will donate 10% of all wine & appetizer menu purchases at the benefit to the project.

The benefit also includes an Awards Presentation for the Milfoil Coloring Contest: Prizes. Prizes for 6 yrs and younger winners include the choice of a children’s books from Creekside Books & Coffee or a Webkinz from White Sleight…ETC.

Rhona Knox Prescott was born and bred in the NYC area. After graduating from Flushing Hospital School of Nursing, she was commissioned in the US Army as an Army Nurse and served about seven years in the military, one in Vietnam over two Tet Offensives, 1967 and 1968. Particularly challenging was an assignment as acting chief nurse in a tent hospital in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Rhona will discuss her experiences and read from her story, “Angels on the Battlefield.”

The Adirondack region of New York State is, in many respects, America’s cauldron of conservation. Editors William F. Porter, Jon D. Erickson and Ross S. Whaley, along with leading scholars, activists and practitioners – those who know the Park’s origin and realities of living in a protected area – narrate this history.  Co-editor, William F. Porter, professor of wildlife ecology and director of the Adirondack Ecological Center at SUNY ESF, will be at Creekside Books & Coffee on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm to introduce and speak about “The Great Experiment in Conservation”, published by Syracuse University Press.
