MY LIFE MATTERS - A Personal Record, One Day At A Time reaches its third birthday in late August, with over 350 copies sold! Once again, it will be on sale at the NYS Fair, August 21 through September 1, in the NYS Parks At The Fair Gift Shop, located near the Horticulture Building. You’ll be amazed at all the wonderful items, many produced by New Yorkers!
Jill Tietjan, co-author of HER STORY - A Timeline of Women Who Changed America , will be at Creekside Books & Cafe on September 20, 1:30pm, to discuss the book and do signings. Her visit is being co-sponsored by the CNY Branch of the National League of American Pen Women, for which Mary Gardner serves as Vice President for Programs. The book is gorgeous, in layout, photography and text, presenting nearly 1000 women! It “… highlights the awesome, varied, and often unrecognized contributions of American women since the 1500’s.” (book jacket) It would also make a wonderful gift!
The signing event is open to the public. Come and enjoy!

Mary Gardner of MLMG Designs will have a booth along with 40 others at the Marcellus Skaneateles Art Guild annual Arts & Crafts Show in Marcellus Park, Upper Level on June 28, 2008. The show will run all day from 10am to 5pm.

MY LIFE MATTERS A Personal Record, One Day At A Time will be on sale, for $20 +tax and beautiful matching bookmark included. This will also be an opportunity to talk with Mary Gardner about upcoming workshops and other matters of interest to writers!

Come to the Show and enjoy music, food, kids coloring and FREE parking! And it’s always fun to talk with the artists and crafters. Marcellus Park is a beautiful municipal park, with walking paths, play and picnic areas.

We’re pleased to report that over 350 copies of MY LIFE MATTERS have been sold over the past three years, in independent bookstores, gift shops, and through Mary Gardner, personally. This is an accomplishment because the book is self-published and therefore cannot be distributed through larger outlets. Even more, it means that 350 people at least have the option to be writing about their lives, as they are living them! Watch for a celebratory event in early autumn at Creekside Books & Cafe where the book was originally presented for sale.

Mary Gardner will have a booth, featuring sales of the book and related information at the Summer Arts & Crafts Show of the SKANEATELES MARCELLUS ART GUILD. It will be held on June 28, 10am - 5pm. Once again, it will be held in beautiful Marcellus Park, Upper Level, Platt Road and Rt. 175 in Marcellus. In addition to artist booths, there will be food, music, activities for kids, etc. and free parking! Come out and enjoy a lovely walk in the park and visit the exhibit and sale booths. Most of my life I have tried to keep a journal. I believe in the importance of writing down your thoughts and commenting on the events in your life. I recently crossed paths with a really nice local woman, Mary Gardner, she teaches about memoirs, journals, and keeping a written record of your life. My husband read a poem the other day and said it immediately reminded him of how he feels when he walks into the room where I am writing in my journal. Mind you, I know I’m a little impatient when interrupted while writing down my thoughts, but I’m not sure I’m this standoffish. Here is the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem “Bluebeard”. Apparently it is pertinent to the unapproachable attitude that I convey while writing in my journal. All in good humor

Bluebeard

This door you might not open, and you did;
So enter now, and see for what slight thing
You are betrayed … Here is no treasure hid,
No cauldron, no clear crystal mirroring
The sought-for Truth, no heads of women slain
For greed like yours, no writhings of distress;
But only what you see … Look yet again:
An empty room, cobwebbed and comfortless.
Yet this alone out of my life I kept
Unto myself, lest any know me quite;
