Claire Affleck Training will be hosting a Horse Camp the week of July 14th-18th, 9am-3pm. The camp is open to all children ages 7 & up. We encourage both beginners and more experienced riders to join us.
Besides working on riding skills, students will learn proper horsemanship which includes the daily care of the horse, basic vet care, feeding, cleaning, and will be able to watch a demonstration given by a horse shoer.
We not only focus on horse skills, our hope is also that children gain life skills such as self confidence, self esteem, leadership skills, and positive communication.

Our final 3 team members registered last night. They just got in under the wire as March 15th was the deadline. Now we have 11 members on our team that will attend the 8th ranking Relay For Life event in the whole United States. The event will be held at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse NY on March 29th. It will go from 7PM in the evening until 7AM. We have 2 Skaneateles mothers and 9 Skaneateles High School Sophomore girls that will be attending the relay. One of our girls has 2 pop-up tents that we will be using for our “campsite” at the Relay. We will be able to continue our fundraising on site at the event by charging other teams and their members for a little “shut-eye” in the privacy of one of our tents. We were thinking $2 per hour. It should be a great time and we will be taking lots of pictures, so check back here after March 29th.

I recently searched “skaneateles people” on google and came across an interesting website - not sure where the data is drawn from. There is a box in the right column that refers to 2000 census data. Below are a few excerpts from the site.
People:
“In Skaneateles, about 61% of adults are married. In Skaneateles, lots of people live on their own.”
Wealth & Education:
“It’s worth mentioning that smart, educated people feel at home in the
village. A tendency for its residents to work at home is one of the things
that define the lifestyle in Skaneateles.”
Politics:
“In the 2004 race for President, George W. Bush was the top recipient of
campaign contributions ($22,450) in Skaneateles. Party contributions tended
to flow to the Republican team.”
Housing:
“Approximately 70% of housing in Skaneateles is owner-occupied. The village
sports a large amount of seasonal housing, typically for vacation or part-time use.”
Again, not sure about the source of this information but I thought it was
interesting data.

I am admittedly NOT a sports fan, but it seems remiss not to mention, in this Skaneateles blog, the amazing accomplishment of our local Boys Ice Hockey team. Last week-end they won the Section III, Division II title game against the Whitesboro team. I heard tell it was an amazing game - which is enough information for me
Now this coming Saturday the Lakers will play against Queensbury to compete
in the State Regional Tournament at Allyn Arena in Skaneateles. The game is set to
begin at 7:30 p.m. So for all of you that DO enjoy sports, get out to the Skaneateles
Community Center this Saturday and show your support for our guys

In recent weeks I have come across blogs by farmers, realtors, hotel owners, and more that live and do business in Skaneateles. Now I need to add to the list a local hair salon owner that also blogs. Kim Baker has a great hair salon in the back of Bella Blue in the village of Skaneateles. She has a great website for her business Bijou Salon, but it’s her hairdresser’s blog that I really like - mainly because I’m partial to the song she has playing in the background. I love “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat.
