Imagine That…, the fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, will host an opening reception Nov. 6 for ceramic artist Jeremy Randall, recognized by Ceramics Monthly as an Emerging Artist for 2009. The wine-and-cheese reception, from 6 to 9 p.m., will feature entertainment by The Usual Suspects, an old-time string band.

Randall, of Tully, is co-owner of the gallery, which opened this past summer. He also is a visiting professor of art and studio manager at Cazenovia College and an adjunct instructor of ceramics at Syracuse University.

A few dog owners in Skaneateles have circulated a petition around the village asking about interest in establishing a local dog park at Austin Park.   We have over 150 signatures of villagers who support this effort.  We also have pledges for fully funding this park.  The main criteria for many signees is that they can walk to it.   Therefore that excludes the town’s offer of establishing a dog park at the conservation area on Old Seneca Turnpike.  Please spread the word as we plan to approach the town and/or village board with our request. We are interested in everyone’s thoughts and feedback.

The Live Music Program at Creekside Coffeehouse offers an exciting program this weekend featuring Mike Powell “The Polite Rebel” on Friday, October 23rd and The Barrigar Brothers on Saturday, October 24th. WHAT: This month Dr. Rob will hold his Walk & Talk at Claire Affleck Training – a horse farm. We will gather at the farm, take a few moments to introduce one another and then head out for a short walk that will end at the pond. At the pond we will build a bonfire and spend some time sharing stories and philosophies with each other. We will enjoy a warm drink and snack around the fire. After the Walk & Talk there will be an opportunity to ride one of the horses for anyone who is interested. In the case of inclement weather, we will hold the event inside.

I think I just found the best kept secret in town the other night. I hope it doesn’t remain a secret for long 

I am a newbie in the yoga world, I’ve only been to less than 5 yoga classes. Nonetheless, I’ve already found there are many different styles of yoga teaching. The key is to find the style that is right for you. I didn’t find the right fit until I attended a Kundalini Yoga Class with Bonita Shear at Stella Maris Retreat Center.

Here is the question you need to ask yourself, what are you looking for in a yoga class? I wanted more than just fitness. Obtaining some relaxation, quieting my mind, and meditation is all part of what I want from a yoga class. I found it!

A lovely yoga class with Bonita Shear that is held weekly in the wicker room upstairs at the Stella Maris Retreat Center in Skaneateles, NY. The class was wonderful and had the 2 main ingredients I so needed: a physical workout as well as meditation for calming my mind. This is a Fall Workshop production by Joe Blum, photography graduate student at the Newhouse School.

Each Fall more than 50 graduate and undergraduate students from the Multimedia Photography and Design department [MPD] at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School canvas a small town in upstate New York, recording sound, writing stories and shooting photos and video. More than 20 leading newspaper and magazine professionals from throughout the Northeast will coach students, critiquing and editing their work.
