A photo from mc_ian’s photostream on Flickr. The caption reads, “In Skaneateles at Xmass many residents dress as Dickens characters, this nice girl was joking around with us at the window of the restaurant.” Besides “Skaneateles,” the photo is also tagged, “Sherwood.” Check out mc_ian’s full photostream here, and his Skaneateles tagged photos here.

From the samilyfamily blog: “We went with a few friends from Sam’s program to a small town called Skaneateles. Each year, the residents dress up as characters from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and have activities. It was fun but extremely cold and we were not prepared for it. This was Alex’s first experience with snow and he did not seem too happy about it.”

I’ve come across alot of people blogging about Skaneateles in the past month or so. Most of them appear to be visitors. There are alot of interesting folks out there saying some nice things about the place we all like to call “home” and they have captured some beautiful pics.
A blogger who attended the recent Thumbstall Quilt Guild blogs about some of the beautiful quilts and how this year’s accomodations for the show were much roomier. Above is pictured a block of the month quilt that she captured.
A Skaneateles town local blogs about being a Tourist in my own town and has captured some beautiful pictures of various places around the village and along the lake.
This blogger took some really nice pics of the along Skaneateles lake over a period of about a week July 5th to about July 11th. There are some cool ones of some kids playing with Sparklers at night.
Also I found the Fergusons Family Blog and a neat picture of one of the kids that had captured a crayfish.
We get a lot of activity around here this time of year (sometimes it can be frustrating) but it’s nice to take a moment and see the experience that visitors walk away with.

I’ve come across alot of new blog posts from people that have visited Skaneateles recently. It’s always interesting to hear what non-residents have to say about the town you live in.
Here’s a blog post from a woman who recently wrote about her Day Away at Stella Maris Retreat Center.
This lady writes about her and her husband and their recent stay at Sherwood Inn. She writes very humorously about a pet peeve they share regarding most hotel’s and their lack of a second chair in the room. This time they stayed in a suite to ensure they both had a chair when it came time to kick back and read.
This picture was in her blog post, I wonder if it is her reading by the lake? Very nice, calm looking shot.
Finally, here is a guy who recently revealed in his blog that after careful consideration he and his soon-to-be wife will trade nuptials in Skaneateles, NY. Other locations they were considering that lost out to Skaneateles – Hawaii, Mexico, Bermuda even Cape Cod.

I pulled the following text and pics from the Dick Shaffer Race for Hope 2008 flyer via their website. If you would like more information visit the Race4Hope website.
In May 2007, along with the Borodino Fire Department, Scott Grimshaw, a friend and local cyclist, and his family, planned an event to honor Dick’s memory — the First Annual Race 4 Hope, a 24-mile bike event. Cyclists from all over New York State came to show their support. In honor of Dick’s love for family, friends and children, they also held a free 4-mile ride. Over 40 local children and their families came to ride. Their pride in participating in this fundraising event was evident in their faces. Dick’s HOPE cycles on.
Join them for the 2nd Annual Race 4 Hope, A Bicycle Ride and Race in Memory of Dick Shaffer on May 24, 2008. They are supporting Golisano Children’s Hospital Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders.

A couple who were expecting their first child booked a getaway to Skaneateles a couple of months before their due date. They visited us in May of 2006 and judging from Kristi Gaylord’s blog titled Interrupted Wanderlust (she’s the new mom) they had a nice relaxing time. There are some great pics on her blog, but the one that really peaked my interest is the creamsicle cheesecake. Who in Skaneateles makes a creamsicle cheesecake … and when can I get one?

Everytime I have company in from out of town I’m asked “Where can we go out to eat in Skaneateles?” Our family falls in to a routine of going to a few of the same places all the time: Doug’s Fish Fry, Joe’s Pasta Garage, Bluewater Grill, Johnny Angels or sometimes Chang Jiang. Now right away that list probably tells you a little too much.
There are sooo many other great places to dine in town from a slice of pizza at Valentines or Mark’s Pizzeria, to a 5 course meal at The Krebs or Rosalie’s Cucina. There is also the Tavern or Dining Room at Sherwood Inn, Joelle’s French Bistro, or Giverny – Mirbeau’s Award winning restaurant. I’m sure I have forgotten about some of the great restaurants in Skaneateles …
Whatever your tastes may be there is a LOT cooking in Skaneateles. It’s up to you to decide what you will be sampling next. Bon apetit!!!

Below are a few pictures taken from the Barnum Blog by Gary & Karen Barnum. Their blog is dedicated to their travels and they have been to Aruba, London, France, Italy, Austria and our very own little corner of the world – Skaneateles. They visited us this year in February and took some wonderful pictures. Their pictures are really big and crisp, they must have an amazing camera. It looks like they stayed
in a room at the Sherwood Inn (Wiki). Here are a few samples and you can click on their Blog link above to view more.
